Miss Nevada USA Crowned Its First Transgender Winner in History

Kataluna Enriquez, 27, was crowned Miss Nevada on Sunday and will now compete for the Miss USA title that is being held on 29 November in Oklahoma.

Enriquez beat 21 contestants to be named Miss Nevada at the event at Las Vegas’ South Point Hotel Casino and made history in the process.

In addition to owning KatalunaKouture, Enriquez is a gown and costume designer, competed and won the pageant in one of her own designs: a rainbow sequined gown to display her pride.

“Huge thank you to everyone who supported me from day one. My community, you are always in my heart. My win is our win. We just made history. Happy pride.” She wrote in the caption of an Instagram post about her win.

Enriquez first took part in transgender pageants in 2016 when she was working as a model. She often uses social media to advocate for the LGBTQ community and share her own journey.
